Intokuji - 2007

Intokuji 2007 offered students three intensive days of aikido training, misogi, meditation, ki breathing and the experience of monastic living.
From one Intokuji member
Sensei,
It is nice to have gained a deeper understanding of the teachings passed down to us through many schools and teachers.  I am very happy, but also nervous of my new understanding of protocols, and responsibilities of being a student of Shin Shin Toitsu Aikido.  No longer can ignorance be an excuse for lack of awareness surrounding dojo etiquette.
Sitting zazen was a very powerful exercise for me.  While sitting there is little outside stimulus to distract from the constant jumble of thoughts streaming through my head.  It is very interesting to look at myself and realize how much time is spent in a constant flurry of thought or movement, and how very little time spent intentionally doing nothing.  The zazen sitting that we did in the Intokuji training gave me a sense of the value of intentionally calming down the actions of the mind and body.
I really enjoyed the sense of camaraderie that was developed within the group participating in Intokuji. It's a very nice feeling when everyone is looking for ways to help each other and the whole situation. This did not have the feeling of a haphazard community, but more of a small team with a very strong intention.
I enjoyed the structure of Intokuji.  The patterns and routines of the meals and of waking sleeping and cleaning, all helped to create a very clean and simple environment in which every action or thought was magnified.  The details seemed to shine brighter in this environment.
I hope that I can take parts of what I practiced in Intokuji into my normal life and into my regular practice at the dojo.  Thank you for this opportunity.
